Celebration at Straits View Farm

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

August 11th was really a special night to remember thanks to the generosity of the Doran’s opening up their farm for the event. A gorgeous view. A historic barn. Amazing food and drink all sourced from the islands.  What stood out even more were the ten farmer table hosts.  Farmers from throughout the county, stood up, and told their own stories through table side conversation.

Goose Foot Produce told of her trials of beginning farming here in the islands and how difficult it was to find land. Dancing Seeds talked about the value of cooperative marketing through the Island Grown branding program.

Mitchell Bay Farm emphasized the importance of needing a food hub in order to sell more easily and expand his market.  Several mentioned Brickworks commercial kitchen providing value-added opportunities.

The Celebration of Island Farming on August 11th raised over $50,000 for food system programs of the San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild:

  • Farmers-to-Farmland
  • San Juan Islands Food Hub
  • Island Grown in the San Juans Marketing Program
  • Brickworks Event Center

Thank you to the volunteers, the Dorans and all that came. We are so grateful for your support!
