Rooted In Place
The San Juan Islands are an archipelago of more than 170 islands spanning forest, rocky outcroppings, marsh, pasture, orchard, and cultivated land, the traditional and hereditary territory of the Coast Salish peoples, who have stewarded these lands and waters since time immemorial.
Today, 13% of that land β some 18,400 acres β is actively farmed. San Juan County farmers grow mixed vegetables, orchard crops and berries, lavender, grains, hay, grass-fed meats, dairy, eggs, and value-added products like artisan cheese, compost, and distilled spirits. Whether you live here or are just passing through, the best food in the islands is grown right here.
Farmers Markets
Sold where itβs grown! Find the best local produce, fruit, dairy, eggs, fresh cut flowers and other goods every Saturday at one of the three the farmers markets in the islands.
Local Food is For Everyone
We know local food isn’t always the most affordable option, but food access programs are available across the county in order to help offset those costs. Contact your local resource center, food bank, food co-op, or farmers market to learn about current offerings.
Local Food Events
Farm tours, market days, harvest dinners, and hands-on workshops β there’s always something happening in the San Juan Islands food community.
